I'm totally enjoying all of my free time this summer! I've decided to reread a bunch of my favorite books that I haven't read in years. I started with A Separate Peace and ended up reading the entire thing yesterday. In fact I read most of it while I was at work! Don't worry, I still did what I was supposed to get done, but in the waiting periods I read over 100 pages. ;) Anyway, I've decided that it really is a phenomenal book, possibly my favorite. I'm not sure about that yet, but it's definitely up there.

Next books on the list:

Crime and Punishment
The Great Gatsby

We'll see what happens after I finish those. I probably won't actually get the chance to read at work much anymore because the professor that I'm doing my research with is coming back from Hawaii next week. :( Then I won't be on my own anymore. And seeing as how both of my roommates are now addicted to 24, that's probably what I'll be spending most of my evenings doing.

Also, my internet connection now seems to be permanently gone. I'm at the library right now so that I can update/catch up with everyone. So, I don't know when I'll actually be able to be online more. I need to call someone to come fix the internet, but I'm scared of calling people. I'm too shy. I don't really know why, because everytime I do end up having to call someone for any sort of business thing, it turns out just fine. Oh well, maybe I'll just get my roommate to do it for me. ;)

Oh, and because Dernie asked:
My research this summer is biology-related. We are investigating gene expression of heat shock proteins in a fern called Ceratopteris. A more detailed explanation: When plants are subjected to heat stress, they synthesize large numbers of heat shock proteins, which help to keep the cells alive. We are looking at the expression of the genes that code for these heat shock proteins and looking for levels of gene expression in relation to amounts of heat stress inflicted on the plant. I don't know if that makes any sense at all, but I'm working on trying to learn to explain it better.

So, as soon as I decide to start spending more time on the Internet and try to get back into LJ and the Quill, what does my Internet do? It stops working! Which is weird, because it was working everywhere else on campus except for the apartments that I happen to be living in. But now it's working again! And I have a three day weekend! I'm still getting used to the feeling of living on campus and having friends around, but not having any homework to do. Because I'm doing research, my day is just a normal 9 to 5, and once I get back to my apartment, I don't have any obligations. It's been fun and has resulted in a lot of watching movies, cooking dinners, and playing Frisbee until late at night.

I have also successfully gotten one of my roommates addicted to the first season of "24." I don't think I ever mentioned this, but I became slightly obsessed with "24" over Christmas break and watched all four seasons on DVD in about two weeks. And when I say I was slightly obsessed, I actually mean very, very obsessed. ;) With the fifth season having ended on Monday, I'm very excited to have someone to rewatch the old seasons with.

Anyway, I am now sitting in my apartment by myself, scrounging for music on iTunes and wondering what I'm going to eat for dinner. I think I'm going to try to go to the chat later. I'm not sure if it will work, because I was never able to get into the chat before, but we can hope.

Hello all. I know, I know, it's been forever since I've been online at all, and I'm very sorry about that. My computer broke down for about a month in November or December, and then I decided that I should focus more on schoolwork this last semester. I had been spending way too much time online. So, I cut myself off from the Quill and LJ and even AIM completely. But now the school year is over, so I'll be around some. I'm probably not going to be spending a large amount of time online, and once school starts up again in August, I definitely won't be online a lot, but I'm going to try to not disappear again. I feel really bad about it, but I think that it was good for me to do that this past semester. I hope that I'll be able to join in the fun again, and I look forward to catching up with everyone!

Wheaton

I got my first organic chemistry exam back today. Not good. Very not good. But I decided that rather than immediately go lock myself in my room and study forever, tonight I am going to have fun. I don't know what I'm going to do, and I'll probably spend a lot of the night studying anyway because I have a big New Testament exam on Friday, but I'm going to take an hour or two at least and have fun. I think my friends and I are going to do our nails...

LOST UPDATE: I only have 3 more episodes of the first season left to watch. Then my friend is going to have her mom tape both episodes this week, and she'll get them when she goes home this weekend. Then we can be all caught up by next week's episode! It'll be good for me when I'm caught up. I'm getting really, really addicted. I woke up this morning thinking about the characters and trying to figure out theories. It's taking over my life!!

Also, my New Testament prof is hilarious. He's a very animated asian man. Very animated. Today in class we were talking about the Prodigal Son, and he ends class with this: "When my wife and I get in an argument - guys in the class, this is good advice for you - if I go and say I'm sorry right away, she gets even more mad. And I don't understand it! What do you want, my lung?! *pretends to pull out lung* So, why do you think that it makes her even more angry for me to apologize quickly?" (remember he's very animated)

Me: Well, of course, he was just apologizing to make her happy.
P: Yeah, he didn't really mean it.
Me: Do you think that most guys get that?
P: You know, I really don't think that they do...
Both of us: *look around* Nah...probably not.

Okay, so the dorm that I live in at school has extra-sensitive smoke detectors. And if one goes off the entire building has to evacuate. I guess that's all well and good in theory, but the stupid fire alarm will go off at the worst times. Like this morning it went off at 5:30. No matter how hard I try, I can't think of ANY reason that ANYONE would have been doing ANYTHING at 5:30 this morning that would have made the alarm go off. But sometimes people are stupid. It's gone off in the middle of the night before from people burning popcorn. Grrr... And this is the second fire alarm we've had in the week and a half that I've been back at school! Looks like it's shaping up to be a fun year... (/rant)

But after I went and got another hour or two of sleep my day got better. I really am loving being back at school. It's a lot of work and not much sleep, but I missed all my friends for the last 4 months! And so, despite the lack of sleep and the irritating morning, I am happy. I have my friends!

This week ROX! I became a Master, joined the Sub, and am now the pharmacist! Also, I get to go back to college in 3 days, which is made even more awesome by the fact that I just might get to meet Frankie in the next couple of months! Speaking of meeting people, I found out that there's going to be a subbit for HP7, and I'm going as Bill! Whoever thought of the subbit idea, you totally ROX! My four month long summer is finally almost over, and this was the best last week ever! Although I'm not sure how long it'll be until I have internet again. Hopefully, I'll have it up and running by Monday, but you never know...

This was a really disjointed post, but I'm just too excited about, well, EVERYTHING to be coherent right now! ;)

Tribute to the divine mums

So I worked for 7 hours today for a lady that I know who has four kids. I was basically just helping her with housework and watching the kids and stuff. Their ages are 2,4,6, and 8, and the 7 hours that I spent at her house made me really, really respect all you divine mums out there. It hasn't turned me off from wanting a family...someday, but it definitely made me appreciate all that mothers go through EVERY SINGLE DAY. You guys really do ROX!

<lj:music>All I Ask of You - Phantom of the Opera</lj:music>

So, here's my first post on my LJ which no one knows exists! Ha, this is kind of fun. This is mostly in honor of my new masterhood and my new efforts to become a part of the HP fandom. So there you go.

In other news, I go back to college in 5 days! I can't wait. Although the process would probably be helped along by my actually packing before Saturday. Hmmm...I meant to be done by Wednesday, but as I've just so brilliantly remembered, that's THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW! Hehe, I just looked at that last sentence and realized that the capitalized words are the name of a movie... Wow, I really need to get some sleep.
